Dermal Fillers

Did you know that many visible signs of aging can be traced back to volume loss? As facial tissues thin out, lines become etched around the nose and mouth and cheeks look a little hollow. Dermal fillers can replace lost volume to help smooth wrinkles, plump the lips, and restore a more youthful appearance.

Dermal fillers are commonly used to restore the volume loss associated with aging that leads to deflated, sagging skin. Dermal fillers are gel-like substances that are injected beneath the skin to restore lost volume, smooth lines and soften creases, or enhance facial contours.

There are many different brands of dermal fillers that are Health Canada approved. Products such as Restylane, Revanesse, Juvederm, Stylage and Teosyal. Each of these products are similar as they have been produced using Hyaluronic Acid.

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance that is already found in your skin. It helps keep skin plump and hydrated. HA fillers are typically soft and gel-like. These types of fillers can also be dissolved if needed, thus make them safer for injection.

Dermal fillers can be used to:

  • Plump thin lips
  • Enhance shallow contours
  • Soften facial creases and wrinkles
  • Improve the appearance of recessed scars
  • Re-volumize cheeks

Preparation

To decrease the chance of bruising at the injection site, please avoid all NON-PRESCRIPTION blood thinning medications and supplements for 1 week prior to your appointment. Avoid taking Aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDS) such as such as Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil and Aleve. In addition, very high doses of some Vitamins (Garlic, Ginko, Vitamin E and others) and supplements can thin your blood and increase the chance of bruising. Please notify your practitioner if you are taking Warfarin, Coumadin, Plavix, or any other blood thinners for a medical condition.

Post Care

• Try to exercise your treated muscles for 1 hours following treatment (ex. Practice frowning, raising your eyebrows or squinting). This helps to work BOTOX/DYSPORT into your muscles. Although this is thought to help, it will not impact your treatment negatively if you forget to do this.
• NO rubbing, touching, lying flat, no downward dog, cart wheels, or the horizontal mambo for approx. 3 hours after treatment. This is to avoid the risk of pressure on the treated areas (from your pillow) and to avoid the risk of having the area rubbed accidentally.
• Be assured that any tiny bumps or marks will go away within a few hours. If you need to apply make-up within 4 hours after your treatment, only use a gentle touch to avoid rubbing the treated area.
• Results of your treatment may take 14 days to take full effect. Please wait until the 14 days has passed to assess if you are pleased with your result. At this time, we ask that you return for a follow up appointment.
• BOTOX & DYSOPORT are temporary procedures, results will last approximately 3-4 months.
• Our clinic will see you in 2 weeks for a follow up. Please ensure you book this appointment if this is your first treatment for the particular area or if you have any concerns.
• If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to CALL 780-750-0852 or TEXT 587-844-2233

When will I see results and how long will they last?

  • You’ll begin to see results as soon as 24 hours after your treatment, and the lines may continue to fade for up to one week afterwards. Effects generally last 3-4 months

What happens during the Treatment

What happens when the treatment stops working?

The effects of BOTOX/DYSPOT will gradually disappear until the treated area regains movement. For best results, continue treating the area every four months.

WHAT ARE DERMAL FILLERS?

Dermal fillers use hyaluronic acid to lessen fine lines and wrinkles. Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in the skin and decreases as you age, which, along with loss of collagen, causes wrinkles and folds in your skin.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM DERMAL FILLERS?

Dermal Fillers can help with cheek volume, lip augmentation, vertical lip lines, marionette lines, chin wrinkles, and nasolabial folds or “parentheses”. Both men and women benefit from dermal filler treatments. Clients of all skin types and textures may benefit from the results of Dermal fillers such as Restylane, Revanesse or Juvederm.
At Face Cosmedics, our expert injectors can determine if Dermal fillers are right for you. Consultations are complimentary

HOW DO DERMAL FILLERS WORK?

With so many dermal filler products on the market, it can be difficult to know which option is best for you without an experienced injectors guidance. Each product is uniquely formulated to have a certain texture, density, and injection depth, which means that certain fillers work better for certain areas of concern. That’s why we offer complimentary consultations with our nurse practitioner and expert injector Leonie.

WHAT CAN BE EXPECTED AFTER DERMAL FILLERS?

After Dermal filler injections, you may experience side effects. Temporary swelling, redness, and pain may persist for a brief time. You may return to your daily activities after treatment, but it is encouraged to avoid scheduling important events immediately after treatment. Once swelling fades, you will begin to notice a smoother and tauter complexion.

Like all procedures, Dermal fillers come with risk. Some more of the less common but more serious side effects include Stroke and Vascular occlusion. A vascular occlusion is when the dermal filler gets into a blood vessel and blocks blood supply to the skin. This blockage can also lead to blindness.

Ensuring you have a very experienced injector who informs you of the risks as well, as is able to deal with any potential side effects if of the utmost importance. When
