Lip Fillers
Lip enhancement procedures can add fullness to thin lips, decrease wrinkles around the mouth and improve lip contour and harmony with facial features. Adding volume to the lips with injectable fillers can restore a youthful fullness that has been lost with age or it can enhance lips that have always been thinner than desired.
Clients have different goals in mind when visiting Face Cosmedics Medical Spa for lip fillers. These goals commonly vary by age, ethnicity, and gender. For example, younger patients are usually focused on adding volume to their lips or improving a lip asymmetry while an older person may want to correct the thinning of the lips and perioral lines seen with the aging process.
Lips can be many different shapes and sizes. The key to a beautiful lip enhancement procedure is to maintain appropriate contour and balance between the upper and lower lips and with the rest of the facial features.
There are many different brands of dermal fillers that are Health Canada approved. Products such as Restylane, Revanesse, Juvederm, Stylage and Teosyal. Each of these products are similar as they have been produced using Hyaluronic Acid.
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance that is already found in your skin. It helps keep skin plump and hydrated. HA fillers are typically soft and gel-like. These types of fillers can also be dissolved if needed, thus make them safer for injection.
Lip fillers can be used to:
- Add volume to deflated lips
- Define the borders and shape of the lips
- Soften “lipstick” lines
- Reverse downturned corners of the mouth

After Lip filler injections, you may experience side effects. Temporary swelling, redness, and pain may persist for a brief time. You may return to your daily activities after treatment, but it is encouraged to avoid scheduling important events immediately after treatment. Once swelling fades, you will begin to notice a smoother and tauter lips.
Like all procedures, Dermal Lip fillers come with risk. Some of the less common but more serious side effects include Stroke and Vascular occlusion. A vascular occlusion is when the dermal filler gets into a blood vessel and blocks blood supply to the skin. This blockage can also lead to blindness.
Ensuring you have a very experienced injector who informs you of the risks and is able to deal with any potential side effects is of the utmost importance.
