Botox treats excessive sweating by blocking the nerves responsible for activating your sweat glands, as a result your sweating is minimized or eliminated completely. Botox only treats excessive sweating in the treatment area where it's injected.
The underarms, palms, soles, scalp and forehead, and groin may be treated with Botox®; in fact, pretty much any area with excessive sweating responds to treatment.
At Face Cosmedics Medical Spa we generally treat the underarms, groin and forehead. However, we will refer you to another practitioner if you are wanting other areas treated such as hands and feet.

Tiny injections of Botox® are administered to the affected area, taking between 10-20 minutes to perform.
Tiny pinpricks can be felt (e.g. typically 1-3 out of 10 discomfort for armpits), but if needed, an anaesthetic cream can be applied beforehand to numb the skin or ice during the procedure. Taking acetaminophen 1hr before the procedure can also reduce discomfort.
The reduction in sweating begins to take effect in the first few days, but it may take 7-14 days to reach full effectiveness. Our Face Cosmedics Medical Spa has observed improvement starting in as early as 3 days, although every person is different.
Sweating is usually controlled with Botox for 5-6 months. Repeat treatments can be administered as the effects begin to diminish.
Mild discomfort at the time of Botox® treatment, occasional bruising.
Your practitioner at Face Cosmedics Medical Spa will discuss treatments and determine what is best for your for your excessive sweating based on a number of factors.

Botox for excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis is often covered by your insurance drug plan. However, each insurance company has criteria to be met in order to determine coverage.
At Face Cosmedics Medical Spa we offer the Botox Access Program. This program liaisons between your insurance company and you to help you get coverage for your hyperhidrosis treatments. You must have third party insurance and a valid credit card to apply for this option. The only cost paid by you at the clinic would be the injector fee. If your insurance denies your request for coverage, the Botox Access Program will cover the cost of the Botox used for your first treatment only.
